FTP / FTPS

Set up the port number of FTP / FTPS services, port range of Passive (PASV) FTP and other related settings.

Timeout

FTP server will disconnect idle users after the specified period of time.

Report external IP in PASV mode

By enabling this option, the server will report its external IP to FTP clients. The reported IP will be listed in the connection log of the FTP client. This option only works when the server is behind a NAT, and with the FTP clients residing in a different subnet as the server. In most cases you don't need to enable this option, but if the FTP clients fail to connect to the server, then please try with this option enabled.

Enable UTF-8 filename support

If FTP client supports UTF-8, enable this function to better handle multilingual filename. However, the support to the old version of FTP clients is limited. If your FTP client has trouble to handle multilingual file name, you might want to disable this function.

Enable FXP

FXP stands for File eXchange Protocol. By enabling this option, FTP service will support server-to-server file transfer function.

Enable FIPS cryptographic module

FIPS is supported on FTPS service using OpenSSL FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography module (Certificate #1747). By enabling this option, additional secure cryptography algorithms will be used by FTPS service to provide more secure sessions.

    Note:
  1. The default port number for the FTP service is 21. You can set it from 1 to 65535, excluding the following numbers:
    20, 22, 23, 25, 80, 110, 137, 138, 139, 143, 199, 443, 445, 515, 543, 548, 587, 873, 993, 995, 3306, 3689, 5000, 5001, 5005, 5006, 5335, 5432, 6881, 8080, 7000, 7001, 8081, 9997, 9998, 9999, 50001, 50002, and eMule default ports: 4662 (TCP), 4672(UDP)
  2. The port range of Passive (PASV) FTP can be from 1025 to 65535. It can contain up to 128 ports.
  3. The "guest" account cannot log in to the server via FTP.
  4. The codepage setting on the FTP client computer must be the same as that of the Synology DiskStation in order to access the data correctly.
  5. On some specific models, FTP service supports connecting using SSL or TLS.
  6. The firewall settings of your FTP client and two FTP servers should be configured correctly, or FXP function may not work well.
  7. Certain FTP clients, such as those using Internet Explorer 8/9, need to login with their username and password. For example: ftp://username:password@your.ftp.com.

See the section below for the Connection Restriction:

Connection Restriction

Limit connections per IP

When this function is enabled, the server will limit the maximum connections per IP. Enable this function and FTP bandwidth restriction to have effective bandwidth management.

Enable FTP bandwidth restriction

Enable this function to restrict the bandwidth of single FTP connection.
